Best Rollerblades and Reviews 2019

Updated on March 8, 2020

Top Rollerblades and the Best Inline Skates for Each Level of Skater

I am a huge fan of rollerblading and try to get out at least twice a week for about 8 months of the year -- I live in Chicago so the other months just don't work. If you are new to in-line skating, I have written an entire beginners manual on everything you should know before getting started, called tips on roller blading.

Now if you are ready to get going and itching to buy some blades, then this is the place for you. I wanted to create this detailed inline skates review page because I remember how confused I was when I decided to buy my first and second pair of rollerblades. Now if you are already an expert, you might not need any of this help, but I still have included an experts section to this guide, so you can always just pop down there and see which pairs I like for experts.

However if you are buying your first or second pair of inline skates, I suggest that you read through my entire manual to avoid making any big mistakes you will regret later. I have broken down the reviews into level categories, such as best rollerblades for beginners, intermediates and experts. The biggest manufacturers of rollerblades, K2 and Rollerblades, both create rollerblades for inline skaters at each level of the sport.

Rollerblades are an excellent fitness alternative for just about any healthy person. Did you know that you can burn as many as 1,000 calories in an hour of rollerblading? That's a healthy workout. I find inline skating to be much less abusive on the knees and feet than running. I think the workout is more intense than biking and yet, all the while you are having fun. I love rollerblading and hope that you will too.

Inline Skates for Beginners - Some of the best skate Rollerblades for starting out

These are some good inexpensive inline skates options for those starting out in rollerblading. The key is not too spend too much money on your first boot just in case you do not like the sport. Beginner inline skates are usually built on shorter wheels, 78" or 80", which are easier to learn on, but will not going as fast as the taller wheels, 84" - 100", of more sophisticated skates.

Also you should be aware that Men's blades always tend to be more expensive than Women's blades both because Men's feet are usually bigger and they have to hold up to the heavier weights of Men.

I would suggest beginner pairs from Pacer or Epic

Best Rollerblades for Intermediate Skaters - For experienced inline skaters, check out these good intermediate rollerblades

If you are comfortable with your skating abilities and are looking for good cruising inline skates for long workouts, these rollerblades are great alternatives. These rollerblades are usually built on bigger wheels, between 80" and 84", which provides for faster speed. They are fast but still stable enough that you can skate comfortably without expert skills.

For intermediate blades, I would stick with K2, Rollerblade or Roces as the most respected brands.

K2's BOA line is great for Intermediate men

After riding Rollerblades for years, my last two pair of blades have been K2 and I have been very impressed. K2 are really best in the intermediate and expert categories and many expert skaters swear by them and I have really been impressed. The F.I.T. Boa come with 84mm wheels allowing for great speeds, depending on where you are skating, or your ability. K2's Softboot designs incorporate breathable, comfortable, and flexible materials that fit and function like a second skin while substantially reducing overall weight.

If you are an expert skater and are looking for maximum performance, speed and exercise, then these rollerblades are the ones to check out. Currently, I skate on the Men's K2 Mach 100s and I love them. They provide an amazing amount of speed but still have the base stability of a full boot.

If you are really gutsy, you can even try racing in line skates, which are much longer. If you like to do crossovers, though, they might not be the right boots for you as it it easy to get yourself clipped up with their long length. Also, do not buy racing skates unless you first try them on. The smaller boots for racing skates require a lot of your own balance and ankle strength. They are tough to get used to, so don't spend the money until you know that is what you want.

For Expert blades, I would stick with either the K2 or Rollerblade brands.

K2 has great Expert boots for men

If you want to travel fast but don't want to limit your ability to do crossovers, you might check out these K2 VO2 100 X Pro line with two 100 mm and two 90 mm wheels. You sacrifice a little bit of speed compared to all 100 mm wheels but you get increased maneuverability.
